They asked for a logo refresh. The real problem was the name — so Frank renamed the credit union and rebuilt everything around it.

Renamed and rebranded a 58-year-old credit union

01How it started

OPCS approached Frank at a networking event about “refreshing” their logo while they added a drive-thru.

02Discovery

Refreshing the logo of a 58-year-old credit union means changing a huge amount of media, so there had to be a bigger reason. There was: the name no longer matched the business it had become. Frank walked them through the math of what keeping the old name had been costing them — and would keep costing them.

03The work

They made the change. Frank renamed OPCS to Great Erie Federal Credit Union, then designed the new identity, stationery, interior and exterior signage, and the interior itself.

2009 · HOW IT STARTED

OPCS approached me at a ongoing networking event I was attending for several months. They had know of my work and asked about having their logo “refreshed”. I asked them what that meant. They said they were adding a drive thru to their location and looking to do some updates and wanted a refresh.

DISCOVERY MEETING

Refreshing a logo for a 58 year credit union is a major decision for the vast amount of media that would be required to change. I told them there must be a bigger reason for this thought. Sure enough through some more in depth conversations I concluded their name no longer matched their business model as it once did 58 years prior. The thought of changing their name was a lot for them to think about and I gave them the financial math thinking of how much it is costing [and has been costing them] [will be costing] them to have not changed it.

Surprisingly they realized they had to make the change and hired me to rename, rebrand, redesign all media, the interior and exterior in total to the new look, feel and name that was now to be their future.
